Survivors told yesterday how they frantically dug with their hands to try to find survivors from landslides in hillside communities around Rio de Janeiro as the flood death toll climbed to more than 350. Torrential rains early on Wednesday caused entire neighbourhoods to be swept away, destroying roads, flattening homes, and burying families as they slept. Fifty people are missing.
